Book: Contemporary Views on Comparative Religion
Chapter: 11. Phenomenology of Religion Revisited
Blurb:
The article refers to the different connotations of the term ‘Phenomenology of Religion’ in order to point out its self claim that deeply-felt religious experience is needed to do research work in the field. With reference to Friedrich Heiler’s book ‘Erscheinungsformen und Wesen der Religion’ (The Manifestation and Essence of Religion) the article argues that no religious experience is needed for such a kind of classification so that any scholar of religion – be s/he a believer or a non-believer – can do that kind of research and thus contribute to a revisited Phenomenology of Religion.
